Shanghai: walking tour to oldest temple and seafood market
Join us on a walking tour by the City God Temple of Shanghai (Chenghuang Miao), the taoist temple located next to Yuyuan garden. It is in the middle of the historical center of Shanghai and dedicated to protective divinities in the city. The building adopted its current name in 1403 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is located in the Bund, the district that accommodated the financial center in the city during the colonial period.
Even though the British presence was dominant back then (which can be reflected in those 24 historical buildings), the area was also controlled by the Russians, the Americans, and the Japanese. What's more, during those years, the Bund remained as the refugee place for the urban fabric of Shanghai.
As you can see, our history is complicated and interesting, making it worth your while to have a guide who will teach you all these stories as you visit some of the most important places and buildings in Shanghai.
