Egypt's Pyramids have been bringing tourists to the country for hundreds of years. If you are headed to this fascinating country to take in this World Wonder, we have a few tips and tricks for you. Keep these pointers in mind and you will have a great time!

Carry Change

Always carry a lot of coins and small bills because you will have to "tip". Tipping is a big part of the Egyptian culture and you might have to tip for anything from directions to food service - so be prepared!

Hold off on the Road Rage

People drive like crazy without any kind of respect to rules. And the majority of the time you are in transit, you will hit at least one traffic jam. Have patience and wear a seat belt. (And if you are in a cab, always negotiate the price BEFORE you start your journey. This will save misunderstanding, frustration and anxiety for everyone involved).

Cross the Streets Like a Pro

Speaking of traffic, know that crossing the streets is quite intimidating at first but after you get used to it. Just make sure you are confident and pay attention (and when in doubt, follow a local’s lead).

Get a Visa

Early in 2015, Egypt changed its policies on visas on arrival for individual tourists coming to the country from EVERYWHERE in the world. If you aren’t traveling with a tour company, make sure you take care of this critical step.

Look for Long Lines

Yes you read that correctly. But, where there are lines, there is usually good food. This is a universal rule for consuming food in foreign countries. Only eat at street stalls and restaurants that are occupied by locals. Delicious food is always worth the wait. We suggest hawawshi (pictured above), a classic Egyptian food of spiced meat baked in bread.

Use Your Bargaining Skills

This is another universal rule for bazaars and markets, and in Egypt, it is especially true. There are several prices for every good (have you ever noticed how few price tags there are in bazaars?). So, never take the first price they name! Bargain your way (politely) to a more reasonable price. Have fun with it - the Egyptian people are very friendly and will have fun with it, too!
