Shanghai: walking tour in Yu Yuan Garden and Miaoqian Dajie
Our ancient historical tour starts at the City God Temple of Shanghai (Chenghuang Miao) which is a taoist temple located next to Yuyuan garden. It is in the middle of the historical center in Shanghai.
Next, we will visit the Yufo temple that was erected in 1882, as a keeper of two magnificent Burmese Buddhas made of jade. Of the two statutes, the most worshipped is the seated one of almost 2 meters height and weighs over 3 tons!
Next, we will venture into Xintiandi, a pedestrian area filled with shops and restaurants - one of the most leisurely places in the whole city.
This will lead us into the Bund district that accommodated the financial center in the city during the colonial period. Even though the British presence was dominant back then (which can be reflected in those 24 historical buildings), the area was also controlled by the Russians, the Americans, and the Japanese. What's more, during those years, the Bund remained as the refugee place for the urban fabric of Shanghai.
As you can see, the history here is complicated and interesting, so don’t miss a chance to see it and learn about it for yourself! Don’t miss your chance to see the best of Shanghai!
